5 Roof Maintenance Tips For A Long Lasting Roof

When it comes to home maintenance, we usually dust our hands after cleaning the closets and kitchen. Rarely, someone thinks of going into the attic. Roofs are even more neglected.
But they are the reason your house is standing in its place. Your house’s roof makes it secure enough for you to live. It ensures that you and your family remain safe from environmental hazards.
Weather can often be threatening. Yet, the roof keeps its place and faces the storm for us. And what do we do in return? Ignore it!

But it’s about time we pay it a visit and check if it’s doing well. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Tip #1: Maintenance begins with proper inspection. If you’re looking to buy a property, make sure to take a local roofing contractor with you. It can save you a lot in repair costs.
Even years after you’ve got your own property, roof inspection should not stop. At least twice a year, call a roofing contractor or go up to check on the roof.

Tip #2: Trees can give you shady, warm places to relax, but growing them too long can put your house at risk too. Small branches can break with wind or during rainfall, and can fall down the gutters. They can then clog them, eventually leading to roof leaks.
Similar, Fall can create a landscape of leaves, and chaos in your house’s guttering system. So trim those extended branches on time!

Tip #3:  Also clean the roof at least once every week. Leaf, branches and you don’t know what trash can build up on your roof. From plastic to feathers, wind carries trash for miles, only to land it over your roof. Keep it clean, if you don’t want your roof tough roof to get damaged by… plastic.

Tip #4: Ventilation is necessary for your roof, just as it is for your house’s interiors. Heat and moisture can rot the sheathing and rafting. Roof material will give away when rotten. This will affect the insulation of your house.
Take advice from experienced roofers for correct roofing materials.
Tip #4: You must ensure that proper insulation is maintained. As discussed above, proper ventilation and good airflow can help in achieving appropriate insulation. Ideally you must have at least one inch between the insulation and roof sheathing.
